If April showers bring May flowers, what do March & April monsoons bring? Flooding, school closures, and cancelled sporting events. Track, baseball, and now a local soccer tournament have all succumbed to too much water. I’m hoping they don’t call off another day of school. We can’t afford to miss any more educational time than we already have.
Our city had over 12 inches of rain last month. I guess that makes up for our rain deficit last summer, where it didn’t rain for 3 full months and we were 12 inches below our annual rainfall average. Our region looked like it was scorched by a fire by the time summer was over. Cacti would have croaked.
On the bright side, we’re supposed to have a nice weekend. If everything hasn’t washed away, I have lots of yard work to do before baseball season kicks in. Mulching, trimming, general outdoor maintenance– it feels like a lifetime since I’ve been outside digging in the dirt in my garden. I just hope that if I put out mulch, we don’t have more heavy rains to wash it all away. I’ve had that happen in some years– it’s frustrating to do all that hard work and then watch all that money wash away. Maybe I should shred a bunch of dollar bills and spread them around my perennials.
