I spent the weekend trying to catch up on yard work. I’ve been out of town for two back-to-back business trips and when I’ve been home, it seems like it’s either rainy, or cold, or both, so I’m not inclined to go outside and plant stuff or trim anything. So I tried to cram it all in this weekend. Bad idea! My body hurts so bad! Apparently I’m not as strong or as energetic as I once was. I’m beginning to see why older people sell their big houses with big yards and opt for condos where somebody else takes care of the yard.
I trimmed bushes (didn’t get them all done), planted some annuals (then bought more– plus some shrubs), and put down newspaper and grass clippings in the garden (until I ran out of clippings). It sounds like I accomplished a lot, but I didn’t. I couldn’t get the kids to help much– they disappeared to friends’ houses. My husband was out of town– no help there either. The rest will have to wait until the weather, my schedule, and my energy level all converge. I may have to wait until next Saturday to finish it all. I think there’ll be enough rain to keep any plants still in their containers watered until then.
Oh yeah– I didn’t get much housecleaning or laundry done either. My daughter did some of that for me on Sunday, so at least we aren’t buried under dirty clothes or inhaling cat hair with every breath. Some things you just can’t let build up.
